This RC airplane is a Seagull Models ARF with a 68 inch wingspan so roughly 1/5 scale. Two 6S 3200mAh batteries are mounted crosswise on the front of the firewall which allowed me to shorten the cowl by 1.5 inches (giving a much more accurate scale appearance) and still have enough weight forward, so no additional nose weight was needed. It now has a full-bodied pilot and two proper Vickers machine guns, replacing what looked like German Spandau machine guns that came with the airplane. Numerous working brass turnbuckles were added for the rigging at the wings, tail and landing gear. The rudder is now operated with pull-pull cabling. The cockpit “hatch” is secured with a sliding hatch lock which replaces the two unsightly thumb screws that stuck out of either side of the fuselage in the original model.
While landing on flight #7 the fuselage snapped in half. It was repaired, strengthened, recovered then repainted.
The markings of the 147th US Army Aero Squadron were supplied by Callie Graphics.
It now has 23 flights.
