Curtiss P-6E Hawk

  • This is an ARF (almost ready to fly) model by Great Planes made of wood with a wingspan of 76 inches.  I bought it used as a gas powered airplane from a club member and I converted it to electric.  I fabricated a motor mount out of 2.5 x 2.5 inch square aluminum tubing that doubles as a carrier for the battery and eliminated the need for any additional nose weight.  The landing gear was redesigned.  The sheeting over the cockpit was cut out, the instrument panel was upgraded, and a full body hand painted pilot was brought aboard.  A new steerable tail wheel was added to replace the rudder activated one.  The blanked-off radiator area was cut out and an aluminum honeycomb structure was cut and installed allowing air to pass more freely on the underside of the fuselage.  The honeycomb is deep enough to appear more solid like a radiator unless you are directly in front of it.    The airplane’s markings were also completed thanks to Callie Graphics.

It was my father’s favorite airplane.  It currently has 32 flights.
