Curtiss P-40E Warhawk

  • I keep reminding myself: A flyable airplane is made up of a series of interdependent aeronautical, mechanical, and electrical systems.  When I decide to change one of the elements of one of those systems, I need to think through what other element(s) may change as a consequence …………… hopefully before taking off!

    This started as the Banana Hobby Curtiss P-40E Warhawk in the camo and the PNP version.  The published specs (and my current replacements): 

    Wingspan - 2000mm (78.7 inch)

    Length - 1711mm (67.4 inch)

    Flying Weight - 4500g (158.7 oz)

    Wing area - 67.25 dm 2 

    Drive System - 290Kv brushless outrunner motor

    REPLACED WITH - Spektrum AVIAN 5065-450Kv (SPMXAM4770)

    Thrust - More than 5600g (12.3 pounds)

    Propeller - 457mm (18 inch) 3 blade

    REPLACED WITH: - Master Airscrew/Windsor propeller, 3 blade, 16 X 8 (the motor spec shows a prop 16 x 6 to a 17 x 8)

    Spinner - Red Plastic

    REPLACED WITH: XOAR 5 inch 3-Blade Carbon Fiber Spinner ‍ https://www.ebay.com/itm/374894643545

    Speed Controller - 80A HOBBYWING brushless ESC w/ 5A BEC

    REPLACED WITH - 100A FMS Predator w/ 5A BEC (FMMPRESC014)

    Servo - Seven 17g

    Retract System - 90 degree rotating servoless screw retracts

    Greatly modified

    Battery - 22.2V 6S 4000mAh Li-Po battery

    REPLACED WITH - Spektrum G2 6S 7000mAh battery
